Cider and Dragon Festival – September 21 and 22, 2024

The Cider and Dragon Festival, organized at Merville-Franceville Plage, transforms this seaside resort into the imaginary town of Merravilla for a weekend. This festival, centered on the world of imagination and fantasy, aims to offer moments of happiness and conviviality to all its visitors. The festival is intergenerational, accessible to all, with free entry, and offers varied activities for audiences of all ages, from 2 to 102 years old. It brings together enthusiasts, novices, professionals and amateurs, and highlights young artists while welcoming recognized figures of fantasy. The Palma Festival – September 25 to 29, 2024

The festival dedicated to visual, sound and digital arts creates an event every year in Caen and Mondeville! Launched in 2016 by artists and cultural structures from Caen la Mer, aims to surprise the inhabitants and visitors of Caen and Mondeville on a daily basis with an eclectic and original program. This multidisciplinary event offers a variety of events such as concerts, exhibitions, installations, visits, walks, workshops and street works. For more details .

Shell and Seafood Festival in Ouistreham – October 19 and 20, 2024

The traditional Shell and Seafood Festival will be held this year on October 21 and 22, coinciding with the first weekend of the school holidays. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can stroll through the Fish Market to buy the famous scallops as well as various fish and shellfish. The city has planned a program full of activities for the whole family.

Activities and Entertainment:

  • At the foot of the lighthouse: Lighthouse tour, show, naval model exhibition, rescue demonstrations with Newfoundland dogs, walking tours, photobus, face painting for children, exhibition on biodiversity, and fish smoking.
  • Place du Général de Gaulle: Various concerts, culinary demonstrations, and sale of scallop skewers.
  • Marina: Sailing trips and aboard the ship “La Belle de Carentan”.

The city's restaurants will also offer special menus featuring scallops. Most of the activities are free, offering a great opportunity to discover the maritime wealth of Ouistreham in a festive and friendly atmosphere.

To see in Caen: The Statues of William the Conqueror and Mathilde of Flanders

They are installed at the foot of the Château de Caen. Made by the world-renowned painter and sculptor Claude Quiesse, born in Caen and living in Lion sur Mer. The 3m high statue pays tribute to the Duke of Normandy William the Conqueror and his lifelong love and wife Mathilde of Flanders.

After admiring the works, set off to discover Norman gastronomy through the streets with medieval stone houses of Caen in the very trendy Vaugueux district.

Sand yachting, sailing and paddle course in Ouistreham

The CANO Center d'Activité Nautique de Ouistreham offers courses to learn the practice of sand yachting, take advantage of discovering the beach differently all year round without depending on the tides. The beach will take on a completely different shape from the first turns of the wheel.

Learn to sail and discover the Bay of Sallenelles, a place conducive to learning and the main protected natural site of Calvados.
